How do I get my F-1 Social Security number?
SSN APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR F-1 STUDENTS
- Obtain evidence of employment and valid F-1 employment authorization. To apply for a SSN, you must first obtain valid employment authorization.
- Submit a Request to the OIS for a SSN Letter.
- Visit a Social Security Office (see below) to apply for a SSN.
Can I get a SSN with an F-1 visa?
The answer is that you can definitely apply for a social security number (SSN) as an F-1 or M-1 visa student. Of course, you need to get a job in order to apply for an SSN. But, don’t be afraid of that. Even working on campus part time makes you eligible, so it’s not that hard to become employed.
